Coming Soon! Expected Release July 6, 2026
Funeral homes are often family-owned or privately managed businesses where leadership transitions can be complex and deeply personal. Without a clear succession plan, funeral homes risk financial instability, staff uncertainty, and disruption of care for the families they serve. Proactive planning ensures continuity, preserves legacy, and supports long-term success.
This course provides funeral service professionals and owners with the knowledge and tools to create effective succession strategies. Participants will explore topics such as identifying and preparing future leaders, legal and financial considerations in ownership transfer, communication strategies with staff and families, and balancing tradition with innovation. Case examples highlight successful transitions and common pitfalls.
By the end of the course, participants will understand how to establish succession plans that honor family legacy, protect business stability, and ensure seamless leadership transitions.

- Define the purpose and importance of succession planning in funeral service.
- Identify potential successors and strategies for leadership development.
- Apply legal and financial considerations to ownership and management transfer.
- Develop communication strategies to support staff, families, and community during transitions.
