Military service members and veterans deserve honor, dignity, and respect in both life and death. Funeral service professionals play a vital role in ensuring that military traditions, benefits, and honors are properly observed while supporting the unique needs of military and veteran families.
This course provides funeral professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to serve military families with excellence. Participants will learn about eligibility and procedures for military funeral honors, burial in national and state cemeteries, and benefits provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs. The course also explores ceremonial protocols, flag presentation, coordination with honor guards, and culturally sensitive support for families coping with military-related loss.
Emphasis is placed on professionalism, accuracy in benefits administration, and compassionate service that reflects gratitude for the sacrifice of veterans and their families.
Learning Outcomes:
Through six focused modules, participants will learn how to:
- Identify eligibility requirements for military funeral honors and veteran burial benefits.
- Coordinate with the Department of Veterans Affairs, honor guards, and cemeteries to ensure accurate and timely arrangements.
- Apply ceremonial protocols, including flag presentation, Taps, and other honors, with precision and respect.
- Assist families in navigating benefits, documentation, and available resources.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and professionalism when serving military and veteran families.
