The death of a loved one is especially difficult for children, who often process grief differently than adults. Funeral service professionals are uniquely positioned to support families as they guide young mourners through loss. Understanding child development, communication strategies, and appropriate involvement in funeral rituals can help children begin healthy grief journeys.
This course provides funeral professionals with the knowledge and skills to support families with young mourners. Participants will explore developmental perspectives on how children understand death at different ages, strategies for communicating honestly and compassionately, and ways to include children meaningfully in funeral rituals. The course also addresses common questions families ask, referral to grief resources, and how funeral homes can create safe, supportive environments for young attendees.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to help families foster resilience, comfort, and healing for children experiencing loss.
